Sun's out- make your own icecream!

Aaah, it was finally hot today! My car said it was 90 degrees outside! We broke out the hose and the water slide and it was a wonderful Seattle afternoon.

Here's my favorite recipe for homemade ice cream with the kids. Try it, it's really easy! and if the kids get sticky and messy from the ice cream, just turn the sprinkler on after they're done eating and they'll clean up themselves.

Materials Needed:

  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Half-n-Half
  • 1/4 tsp Vanilla (I like Trader Joe's Vanilla Paste)
  • 1/2 Cup Rock Salt
  • Ice
  • 1 Pint Size Ziploc Bag
  • 1 Gallon Size Ziploc Bag
Instructions:
Combine the sugar, half-n-half, and vanilla in the pint size ziploc bag and seal tightly. Combine the ice and rock salt in the large ziploc bag. Place the small bag inside of the larger bag and seal. Shake the bag until the mixture turns into ice cream! This will take about 5 minutes. Cut the corner of the small ziploc bag to squeeze the ice cream into a bowl- much easier than scooping it out of the baggie.

Enjoy!
